BITS 'N PIECES: Book selection "1001 ways to be romantic"
1. Editor's words: What is love?
Many of us grapple with a definition of what love is. Is it
the quivering feeling in your insides when you meet that
special someone? Is it the feeling that cupid just emptied
his quiver of arrows straight into your heart? Or is it feeling
that there's nothing you wouldn't do to ensure the safety
of your loved one?
If we go into the world of music, there have been several
attempts at defining love. From Howard Jones' "What is
love?" to Alexander O'Neal's "Love makes no sense" and
thousands of other singers. Such songs have made us
ponder a little on the big mystery of love, but rather than
define love here, let's take a slightly different angle.
Let's look at the effects of love… in other words, what does
love make you do or make you become? Here are a few to
ponder…..
In the incomparable and indelible words of the Greek
philosopher Plato, "At the touch of love, everyone becomes
a poet."
Love is… what makes you wake up in the middle of the
night just to watch your partner sleeping.
"Love is, above all, the gift of oneself." Jean Anouilh.
"Oh, love is real enough; you will find it someday, but it
has one archenemy - and that is life." Jean Anouilh.
"The simple lack of her is more to me than others'
presence." Edward Thomas.
"To live is like to love - all reason is against it, and all
healthy instinct for it." Samuel Butler.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on this. You can go straight
here and tell us what love has made you do. This will be
totally anonymous so you don't have to tell us who you are!
2. Featured Poems
Here's our selection of poems for this week:
May the sun rise for you
Through my struggling with what is now inevitable
It has become patently plain to see
I care for you too much to wish you
Anything that causes you to be uncomfortable,
Even though I hate to see you go
It is my utmost wish and desire
That the sun rises for you each morning.
Lost in your deep dimples
It sometimes sounds so simple,
All I want is someone with whom
I can share life's experiences,
To be lost staring into your deep dimples
Conjuring up images of you in a room
Beholding what must be the strongest of romances.
The same note
The most exquisite cuisine
Seems so bland and lifeless,
My taste buds are sinking
In an ocean of saltlessness,
Vision for me now
Is nothing but black and white.
I often wonder when and how
We can put things back right.
Every sound I hear
Drums loudly within me
But I'm beginning to fear
Because it's all the same note to me.
