1. Editor's words: Beauty and the beholder
We are all quite familiar with the notion that "beauty lies
in the eye of the beholder." In some ways that implies
beauty is perceived a number of different ways, depending
on who is doing the beholding.
Going back in time, we uncover a few ways in which beauty
has been defined or discussed. These are mentioned here,
primarily to augment your existing perception of what
beauty is. Given that this is such a personal issue we
don't envisage any general form of consensus. Rather we
expect grounds for healthy and wholesome exchange of
ideas etc…
"We fly to beauty as an asylum from the terrors of finite
nature." Emerson, Journals, 1836.
"Beauty is a primeval phenomenon, which itself never
makes its appearance, but the reflection of which is visible
in a thousand different utterances of the creative mind,
and is as various as nature herself." Goethe, quoted in
Johan Peter Eckermann's Conversation with Goethe,
April 18, 1827.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on this. You can go
straight here and tell us more about how you view beauty.
This will be totally anonymous so you don't have to tell
us who you are!
2. Featured Poems
Here's our selection of poems for this week:
Off my feet you've swept me
Off my feet you've swept me,
In an eternal bind you've kept me,
What more can I say?
I love you in every way
With every single touch of your hand
Countless constellations canvass through my mind
From dawn to dawn
You'll always be my #1.
Your ever-brilliant smile
Your ever-brilliant smile
Touches the very centre of my heart
I could never leave you, not even for a while
Because you have over others, a headstart
As we explore the future
Soft, sweet, soothing sounds
Shall complete the picture
Of our love which has no bounds.
