1. Editor's words: Love revisited
In our very first issue of 3words poetry digest we explored
a definition of love. As we mentioned then, love can be
difficult to define given that it often means different
things to different people. We addressed this issue by
highlighting a few definitions from the likes of Samuel
Butler, Jean Anouilh and Edward Thomas.
In this issue, a definition of love is being revisited.
Once again to assist us we present a few definitions
from seasoned experts in the field…
"To love a thing means wanting it to live." Confucius,
Analects, 6th century B.C. (12.10, translated by Ch'u
Chai and Winberg Chai)
"Love is that condition in which the happiness of another
person is essential to your own." Robert Heinlein, Stranger
in a strange land, 1961, 34.
"As selfishness and complaint pervert and cloud the mind,
so love with its joy clears and sharpens the vision." Helen
Keller, My Religion, 1927.
We'd love to hear your thoughts on this. You can go
straight here and tell us more about how you define love.
This will be totally anonymous so you don't have to tell
us who you are!
2. Featured Poems
Here's our selection of poems for this week:
If only I knew
If only I knew
What made you blue
I'd try to do
Anything just for you;
But you keep me guessing
Instead of confessing,
Surely I'll keep pressing
Till my anxieties lessen.
You give me
You give me
A reason to carry on,
When I'm lonely
To you I run.
In the driest desert
You rate higher than water
Under the highest hazard
My love will not falter!
3. Did you know?
How to say these 3words, I Love You, in Swahili…
Naku penda.
