Finalists' Poems.....

Finalists' entries from our tenth poetry competition.

"Treasures", by Joanne

I cleaned your closet out today
and found some sweaters I'm giving away.
I looked at the top shelf where I found,
a satin box tied with a ribbon around.
I opened the lid and to my surprise,
were all your treasures kept inside.
The first one I saw was the red faded rose,
the one I gave you when I proposed.
I found that cigar band from the 4th of July,
the one I placed on your hand as you gazed at the sky.
I thought you threw away that old thing
when I replaced it with a wedding ring.
Here is the clown I won at the fair,
whose ribbons I placed in your beautiful hair.
I will love you forever and know this letter will never be read.
I'm finally realizing now you are dead.
I will take it to your grave and place it there
with a rose like the one you wore in your hair.
Forever you will be my treasure, my darling wife
and I will love you all my life. "Sweet Daydreams", by Brenda Daydreaming again to bide my time
Such tender thoughts engulf my mind
Again and again, I think of you
Of all the things you say and do
How when I fall, you help me stand
And when I am scared, you hold my hand
Oh, thank God, for giving me you
For now without you, my life would be blue
My nights would be endless and my dreams shattered too
Forever I promised to stand by your side
Before as your girl and now as your bride
My love for you, I will never deny
Together we'll find no mountain too high
We will climb and climb, and no, we won't fall
For without our faith, we have nothing at all
These feelings for you, I cannot compare
To anything existing anywhere
An anxiety that words cannot describe
And of the only the few in you I confide
Are many thoughts that go unsaid
But day in and day out, they run through my head
Only nice thoughts, for they could not be cruel
For like a diamond, I have made you my jewel
My star to salvation, my fire when I'm cold
My light when it's dark and my love when I'm old
We'll be together forever as I have told you before
When we're feeling closed in, we'll just open a door
So much to see and so much to do
And none of it possible, if not for you "Have", by Sarah You have the most beautiful hands
strong and soft against my skin
and they hold me together.
You have the most wonderful touch
electric and silky along my spine
and it keeps me yearning.
You have the most beautiful eyes
love-filled and painful gazing at me
and they let me see love.
You have the most wonderful vision
so far and creative into our future
and it keeps me inspired.
You have the most beautiful lips
erotic and gentle against my cheek
and they keep my tears at bay.
You have the most wonderful kiss
wanting and needing upon my mouth
and it keeps me guessing.
You have the most beautiful love
longing and powerful within my heart
and it keeps me alive. "IT", by Rajeshwari Hidden in a deep corner of my heart,
Is a faith that knows its belief.
Shimmering like a star in my eye,
Is a dream waiting to explode.
Breathing silently in my heart,
Is a heartbeat taking every breath away.
Vagaries of the wind cannot astray it
The most fearful tornados cannot swirl it
For it is where it should be,
A stalwart placed in the highest tower
A jewel adorned by the lady herself
A shining sword placed in its sheath.
I admire its immense strength
I am aware of its vigor.
But it has become a victim of time
Led into a sinuous road
Unable to find its way back
How, then, will it reach its destination?
Not to worry, my savior has arrived
Riding on a handsome horse
He will rescue it
From the clutches of time
He will guide it to the garden of love
A place where 'IT' is destined to be.
