Finalists' Poems.....
Finalists' entries from our eighth poetry competition.
"Solo Traveller", by Saleem
I am a traveller,
On the road to your heart.
I have been travelling,
For centuries that have past.
I have a dream,
That I will reach at last.
I am keeping,
The promise on my part.
I rest for a while,
And again I start.
My journey to the bottom of your heart.
"My embodiment of loveliness", by Sanwoolu
O masterpiece of nature
Nature itself acknowledges your beauty
You are an embodiment of nature's loveliness
At your smiles the stars twinkle
Taking pictures of you
You thread upon the dry leaves
and all they do is crackle with laughter
Your voice is so sweet that the birds keep their silence,
to listen,
Savouring the moment
You are tenderness personified
Loveliness in human form
Your gaze upon me
Illuminates my very being
And above all
You are mine, & mine to love and adore .
"Some advice for the wedding", by John
Always keep your wedding album,
In the middle of the shelf,
So that in the years to come,
When hours slip idly by,
And passion manifests itself,
In hot debate over soap or sport,
It's gilded edge may catch your eye,
And provoke a pause for thought,
It will gently reprimand you,
As each page is slowly turned,
Reach back, refresh, renew!
Love's not just a wedding gift,
It's presence must be earned,
Without your full attention,
The course begins to drift,
Care is the sole prevention,
For table flowers quickly perish,
Those suits are soon outgrown,
But the love you strive to cherish,
Will get stronger by degree,
A wedding, like the seed sown,
From which marriage emanantes,
The first ring on a spreading tree,
Of anniversary dates,
So always keep your wedding album,
In the middle of the shelf,
And never let it just become,
The echo of a perfect day,
But use it to remind yourself,
Those same feelings are still there,
Then let all the years fall away,
Like confetti in the air.
"You are beautiful to me", by Marie
Many people are judged by their looks
True, many are beautiful, on the outside
But how do they measure up, on the inside
Many are shallow and conceited
But you, my love have an inner beauty of kindness
You care and have a loving spirit
Inside and out, you are beautiful to me.
