"Running Rainbow", by Elissa (Second)
Love stories are near impossible to write
But poetry flows freely as color and light
Its rhythms and beats are music to my ears
Love can seemingly soothe away all of my fears
A rainbow of feeling blend into one
Creating a goal well worth the run
But Girl loves boy, he likes someone new
Thus creates the color blue
Boy wants her back, but there's someone else she's seen
Thus creates envious green
Fights ensue, they toss and turn in their beds
Thus we have the color red
Bright and sunny they reunite
Now they've made all shades of white
Rainbows of emotion bleed into one
Search for the pot of gold, far as you can run
But is that gold what it's really about?
Finding that ONE you cannot live without
And if they emerge, how can you know?
That it's their true colors that they show?
And how do you know infatuation from love?
Is it free will or determined above?
Questions swirl, a rainbow of thought
We are taught growing up not to stir the pot
Part of growth is finding out our own truth
And perhaps love is everybody's first wisdom tooth
At this point in my life, it is so hard to know
Am I missing the obvious because I am just too slow?
Is it right in front of me and I cannot see?
Is he someone exactly or nothing like me?
Is he standing so close I can not make out his face?
Am I running too slowly he can't keep step with my pace?
Is the pot of gold moving, or is it me?
And if I look hard enough, will it still be free?
Answers to such questions are not easily found
The beat can be so loud that silence deafens the sound
Poetry flows; colorful day into night
I'll keep on searching for a love that is right.
